Our Beginning
Community partners – UGA faculty, public schools, physical and mental health care providers, agencies, nonprofits, parents, and others – have come together to organize Awareness to Action, Community Summit on Trauma and Toxic Stress to engage the entire Athens community to become a trauma-informed community
- with a common language, common experience, common purpose, and common vision around trauma and helping children and families heal where all children feel safe physically, psychologically, socially, emotionally and academically
- that creates policies, practices and procedures that support more effective assessment, prevention and treatment; and
- that operates from central guiding principles that incorporate developmentally appropriate, strengths based, culturally responsive approaches.
