Registration for the summit has closed. Please check back to this website after the summit for information, updates, and next steps.
Who should attend? Social workers, educators, counselors, business owners, legal professionals, parents, foster parents, law enforcement, faith community, elected officials, all who want to help Athens become a trauma informed community -- you!
This will be a highly participatory event with lots of discussion and consensus building with the ultimate goal of creating: (1) a shared understanding of trauma and how it may impact our community; & (2) developing a shared vision for how we can meaningfully participate in community-wide solutions. This is truly just the beginning.
DAY 1
Monday May 22: 8:30am- 5:00pm
Morning Session: Day one will begin with a brief plenary session to define a common language to be used when discussing trauma, toxic stress, and trauma informed care followed by a guided interactive discussion to gauge where we are now in Athens.
Keynote: Our Keynote speaker will be Robin Saenger, Founding Director of Peace4Tarpon. Tarpon Springs, Florida is widely known as the first trauma informed community in the nation and we look forward the opportunity to hear about their journey and what we can learn from them as we set out on the path to make Athens a trauma informed community.
The morning session will also include consensus building and brainstorming sessions focused on creating a shared understanding of trauma and toxic stress.
Lunch will be provided.
Afternoon Session: Following lunch, we will continue the afternoon with additional consensus building and generating ideas through a facilitated discussion as we drill down further into this topic and begin to map out what needs to happen at the local level to address trauma and toxic stress.
The day will close with a brief mindfulness/self-care exercise.
DAY 2
Tuesday May 23: 8:30am-12:00pm
Morning Session only: Attendees will reconvene on Day 2 to plot the course for Athens to become a TIC by: prioritizing action steps, identifying who needs to be at the table, and how we can work together to implement these next steps.
